Silverton
One day we took the Durango & Silverton Narrow-Gauge Railroad to Silverton. It was a chilly ride, but there was some fabulous scenery.
Here's the train pulling out of the station:
We went past a little airstrip on the way out of town:
Here are Matt and I on the train:
This is an old silver mine we went past:
And here's the train at the station in Silverton:
Britt and Ilana met us at Silverton, and we went to the Old Hundred Silver Mine.
Here's the entrance to the mine:
Some shots inside the mine--the first is looking up one of the shafts:
And here are Ilana and I panning for silver. I gave up right away, but Matt and Ilana got some good pieces.
On the way back to Durango we stopped at a scenic overlook to take some photos. It was gorgeous, but there were rain
clouds moving in. The first photo is of Silverton--it's in a valley, but its elevation is around 9300 feet.
